Principal and Facilitators
For the last 20 years, Angie has held management roles in the not-for-profit sector, as well as state and federal government departments. While her background is in organisational psychology and communications, she is passionate about progressive education and ensuring our community and young people has a choice in schooling. Joining Maleny Independent School in a leadership role was a natural progression for Angie. It brings together her diverse skills and experience and applies them in the most meaningful role of her career – establishing and operating a progressive middle school.
Deputy Principal and Learning Support Facilitator
Debbie is a highly experienced educator with extensive qualifications, including a PhD, Master of Education Studies, Reading Recovery Tutor Certification, Bachelor of Teaching and Grad Dip in Education. Throughout her career, Debbie has been a lecturer, literacy consultant, tutor, mentor, advisor and more. We are incredibly grateful to have Debbie on the leadership team and in supporting our learners and facilitators on their own learning journeys.
Linda has over 15 years’ experience in secondary schools across south-east Queensland and Japan. With a Bachelor of Arts (majors in linguistics and Korean and minor in Mandarin Chinese), Bachelor of Multimedia and Bachelor of Education, Linda brings a vast range of skills and experience to our school. Linda is fluent in Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Linda is mum to five children and is passionate about all things music. In her spare time, Linda runs her own web design and development business.
With a rich career as a scientist and educator, Allyson comes to the Maleny Independent School with a vast range of skills and experiences. She holds a Grad. Dip. Education, a PhD in climatology, and degrees in physics and environmental science. Allyson has served her community in a variety of ways, including being a United Nations Advisor.
For over five years Mitchell taught in secondary schools around south-east Queensland before heading to Denmark to work for a year. While teaching in Denmark, Mitchell gained insight into how progressive education can transform the lives of people. Upon returning to Australia, Mitchell continued to work in mainstream secondary schools for a couple of years before joining the MIS team at the start of 2020. Mitchell brings extensive experience in teaching Health and Physical Education and science, as well as maths.
Kester started dancing at a young age and took up music in his early teens. With a Bachelor of Dance and Post Grad. Dip in Animatuering (Majoring in Improvisation, where his thesis was on the connection between dance and childhood development) Kester brings extensive experience in the performing arts. Dance, music and drama have been an integral part of his life, and Kester is thrilled to bring the arts to Maleny Independent School. Kester, along with his partner, Kirsty, are the directors of Heartspace Performing Arts Centre that adjoins our classroom.
Sharon has many, many years’ experience working in an office environment. We would be lost without her swift and proactive approach to everything that comes through the door or onto her desk!
Sandy is an experienced bookkeeper with the knack of the numbers. She keeps our accounts and all things numbers up to date and is a valued member of the team.
ICT Support and Systems Development
Bernie brings his amazing expertise in I.T. and systems development to the school, supporting the smooth operation of our computers and systems.
Rowan is an environmental, sustainability, risk and communications specialist with 20 years experience in advisory and management roles in government, consulting and industry. She is passionate about writing and trying to capture and document creative ideas so they can be turned into a reality.
Sarah has a background in Public Health, Project Management, Commissioning, Case Management, Management of Health Visiting (Child Health) and School Nursing, as well as Clinical Nursing in a variety of areas. She has worked within Health in both the UK and Australia and is passionate about Child and Youth Development, encompassing the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur from birth through to adolescence and into adulthood.
