Samuel Chen
TEACHING PRINCIPAL

Sam is a ‘real world’ teacher and has a passion for sharing knowledge in a meaningful way. His teaching experience has been realised through secondary schools, youth workshop programs, tertiary tutoring, and workplace mentorships/training. Equipped with a Master of Science Communication, Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Environmental Management, and Bachelor of Arts, his acquired knowledge has led to 15 years of project work, across the environmental, film/arts and education sectors. John Debbins
Teacher
John is a creative teacher with extensive experience in fields in and outside of education.  He has worked in primary and secondary schools in the United States, Spain, Paraguay, Malawi, the Netherlands and Australia.  He has worked in technical fields of community electrification and running water systems as a Peace Corps Volunteer in South America and as a commercial bush pilot in Africa.   He has a Graduate Diploma of Education and Bachelors in History and Spanish.  He enjoys binging alive the connections between the world and the classroom.

Maria Dodd
Teacher
Student support, diagnostic specialist, evaluation of Individual Education Plans (IEP).
A passionate child advocate with a Bachelor of Psychology and a teaching degree, Maria provides academic and social-emotional support to our students. She has a love for mathematics and science, particularly brain development and human behaviour. She has worked in neo-humanist eduction for 13 years and is an asset in the development and implementation of systems to support the delivery of a leading educational program.

Allyson Williams
Teacher
With a rich career as a scientist and educator, Allyson comes to the Maleny Independent School with a vast range of skills and experiences. She holds a Grad. Dip. Education,  a PhD in climatology, and other degrees in physics and environmental science.
Community service is hugely important to her. She has served her community in a variety of ways ranging from her role as a United Nations Advisor, through to teaching, and local community projects.

Our Administrators

Tash Driscoll
Business Service Manager
With a degree in commerce and law and background in law interpretation and auditing, Tash looks after the business side of our school, ensuring operations are efficient, effective and compliant with government requirements.

Leanne Collett
Administration Officer
Leanne has a degree in Design and experience in administration and customer service. Her skill set not only supports the administration and day to day running of the school, but also includes graphic design, branding, marketing and website design. 

Lisa Falcongreen
Bookkeeper
Lisa is a bookkeeper with the knack of the numbers. She keeps our books up to date and supports a happy workplace.

Bernie Dwyer
ICT Support and Systems Development
Bernie brings his amazing expertise in I.T. and systems development to the school, supporting the smooth operation of our student and staff computers and systems.

Our Teacher Aides 

Mikala Johnson
At 17 years of age, Mikala brings a gentle and creative energy to our community.  She has the ability to connect with our young people on “their level” and will support the individualised learning plans for our students.  

Kirsty Sziron
Kirsty is an enthusiastic performing arts specialist who has choreographed and produced numerous school productions and has toured through-out Queensland, NSW and Victoria. She is the Director of Heartspace Performing Arts Centre, is an amazing dancer and singer in her own right, and provides heart-centred energy and support to teaching staff and students at our school.

 

School Leadership

Paul Stratford
CHAIRMAN

Paul is a member of the Australian Professional Golfers Association, holding Management and Director positions at various Clubs over the last 15 years. Over the last 8 years he has created and managed the distribution of electric vehicles into Australia from Europe, whilst building the largest Yamaha golf cart dealership in Australia. He served as Chair of a primary school board through its restructure phase and currently holds a position on its advisory committee.

Rowan Hutson
Rowan is an environmental, sustainability, risk and communications specialist with 20 years experience in advisory and management roles in government, consulting and industry. She is passionate about writing and trying to capture and document creative ideas so they can be turned into a reality.
