2019 - A focus on 'Relationships'

Positive relationships and relationship building skills support the development of independence, self esteem and wellbeing. Relationships help us connect to each other, our community and the environment, and reinforce that we are not alone, that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

In the school setting, improving relationships has been shown to have long-lasting positive effects on both academic and social development. Teaching through relationships reinforces the importance of understanding the learners journey – what motivates and inspires them; and helps us create experiences that support engaged learning.

These values underpin our focus on ‘Relationships’ in 2019, starting with inquiry into our relationship with nature as we look at  ‘Myself in the Landscape’

A Shared Vision

A holistic approach to learning that engages and inspires young minds;
An environment that encourages curiosity, provides time for reflection and a safe space to explore;
A school that students are passionate about;
A school where students are supported to take ownership of their future;
A ‘Connected Curriculum’ with real-world implications and outcomes;
Learning beyond the classroom with support from specialists and leading facilities;
Progressive, personalised teacher supported and peer-to-peer learning opportunities;
A nurturing environment where young students can develop a strong sense of self;
A foundation based on inspirational learning that meets and exceeds the
 requirements of the Australian and Queensland Curriculum; and
A world-class independent educational option upon the range.

About us

Maleny Independent School is centrally located near local businesses, sporting fields, the Maleny library and swimming pool, and the beautiful Obi Obi Creek and CO-OP community garden. We are also within short walking distance from school bus stops.

School Principal Gilroy Hatcher brings with him over 20 years experience working with youth in community, independent and state high-schools, as well as working as a First Nations coordinator.  He is passionate about connecting curriculum and supporting student learning within the context of their everyday life.

Gilroy is supported by the Maleny Independent School Board, a group of parents and community members who are committed to delivering a neohumanist, holistic approach to learning that engages and inspires young minds; an environment that fosters a love of learning; a school that students are passionate about; and a world-class independent educational option on the range.
